DAVE PROWSE Interview 2008 Pt 2
In Part 2, Dave discusses the greatest job of his life … and it might surprise you.
I was lucky enough to meet Mr Dave Prowse on several occasions at fan events, official and unofficial, but none more interesting than the last time.
Dave was doing a signing at a local toy shop for a certain children’s charity and the local costume group had been invited by said charity, with Stormtroopers, Imperials AND a fully costumed (and operational) Darth Vader.
Now Dave said to me that the charities always do this at signings and for some reason ALWAYS include Darth Vader as one of the costumed characters, which, kinda pissed Dave off a bit as, as far as he was concerned, if people saw the guy in the suit at signings where they were coming to meet the REAL Darth Vader, they’d be asking “who’s that guy sitting down, signing autographs as Darth Vader?” Meaning, HE was Darth Vader, they didn’t need a fan in a suit, because the fan in the suit took the attention away from Dave and the charity signings suffered because of it.
I mentioned this to one of the costumers and they ran, whining, to the charity, who then ran around trying to placate the costume group, that Dave didn’t mean them!
As far as I was concerned, Dave was right to be pissed off and really, fans need to THINK and so do the charities!!!
Dave was a great guy and we joked about it afterwards but he still didn’t change his stance. Rest In Pease big fella!
