Production / DevelopmentChuck Wendig was chosen to launch the new canon’s post‑Endor narrative, establishing the tone and political direction of the era. The novel was designed to bridge Return of the Jedi and the eventual rise of the First Order, introducing characters and political threads that continue through the trilogy (Life Debt, Empire’s End). Wendig’s use of present‑tense prose was a deliberate stylistic choice to create immediacy and cinematic pacing. Interlude chapters were added to show galaxy‑wide reactions, providing snapshots of ordinary citizens, warlords, and emerging threats. Set right after the Battle of Endor, the book takes us through the aftermath of the massive Galactic Civil War that saw the fall of the Empire. Our story revolves around a group of different characters who are thrust together by fate. From a former rebel pilot Norra Wexley, her teenage son Temmin, a skilled bounty hunter Jas Emari, to a former Imperial officer Sinjir Rath Velus, this ragtag team sets out on a daring mission to track down the remaining high-ranking leaders of the Empire and bring them to justice.
The galaxy after Endor is supposed to be celebrating… but of course it isn’t. Instead, everything feels like the morning after a wild party where half the guests vanished, the furniture is broken and someone definitely released a rancor. New heroes scramble to make sense of the chaos, chasing Imperial leftovers who refuse to admit the war is over. It’s messy, unpredictable and buzzing with that “the future could go brilliantly or catastrophically wrong” energy. ✨
