What Darth Vader Realized About Mace Windu +1

TSWMore than 20 years after Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader would look back on the duel between Mace Windu and Darth Sidious and reconsider what truly happened inside Palpatine’s office. As explored in the Star Wars Legends novel Death Star, while the evidence strongly indicates that Mace Windu genuinely defeated Palpatine in their lightsaber duel, Vader came to understand that there was far more happening behind the scenes. Palpatine had spent years manipulating Anakin Skywalker, carefully engineering his fear, desperation, and distrust of the Jedi until the confrontation with Windu became the final trap. Decades later, Vader could finally contemplate how completely his fall had been orchestrated and how the moment he once believed was simply an attempt to save an old friend may have been the culmination of Darth Sidious’s plan all along.

What did Emperor Palpatine really think when he saw Darth Vader in his black armor for the first time? In the Revenge of the Sith novelization, Sidious describes the newly transformed Vader as “glorious,” “terrifying,” “mesmerizing,” and “perfect,” viewing the suit as a magnificent jewel box containing the greatest treasure of the Sith. In this video, we break down Palpatine’s true reaction to Vader after Mustafar, why he still considered him a masterpiece despite Anakin’s lost potential, how Vader’s terrifying appearance served the Empire, and why Sidious continued to test and push his apprentice for years afterward.
