Worldwide Exclusive Streaming of Quiz from God
TOKYO — September 25, 2026 —Prime Video today announced that the new Prime Original drama series Quiz from God will stream exclusively worldwide across more than 240 countries and territories beginning Friday, December 4, 2026. The series is a reboot of the phenomenal Korean mystery drama Quiz from God — which sparked a cultural phenomenon known as “Quiz from God Addiction” among viewers who couldn’t stop watching — reimagined and set in modern-day Japan as a compelling human drama. It was also revealed that acclaimed actor Shotaro Mamiya will take on the lead role of genius forensic pathologist Haruto Hatsushima. Alongside today’s announcement, the first teaser visual has been unveiled, together with comments from lead actor Shotaro Mamiya and director Shunki Hashizume.
The series follows Haruto Hatsushima, a genius forensic pathologist and former neurosurgeon hailed by those around him as “a genius chosen by God” — yet dismissed as being eccentric by his colleagues. Having left surgery behind for deeply personal reasons, Haruto has dedicated himself to reading the silent cries of the dead, taking a position at the National Forensic Autopsy Center.
Each day, the center receives the bodies of those who have met mysterious deaths — victims caught up in baffling cases and inexplicable accidents across modern-day Tokyo. Haruto confronts cases that expose the hidden fractures of society: the mysterious death of a convicted kidnapper; the sudden death of an underground idol mid-performance while engulfed in online controversy; the unexplained death of a young person drawn into organized crime through illicit gig work; a sudden death during a couple’s first date at a movie theater; and the lonely death of a runaway youth on the fringes of society.
Behind each unexplained death lies a rare disease undetectable by conventional means — a riddle concealed within death itself, a “Quiz from God” that Haruto is determined to solve.
Yet Haruto himself harbors a secret: he is quietly ravaged by a mysterious illness of his own, living each day wondering, “How much longer will my body hold out?” — a man walking side by side with death. And behind the brilliance that earned him the title of genius lies a hidden truth from his past.
The original series, Quiz from God is a full-scale mystery drama starring Ryu Deok-Hwan that became a cultural phenomenon in South Korea. Produced by STUDIO DRAGON, one of Korea’s leading production companies, the series follows genius medical examiner Han Jin-woo as he unravels the mysteries behind unexplained deaths, weaving together compelling human drama with edge-of-your-seat storytelling. The show was a massive hit, spanning a total of five seasons (Seasons 1–4 and Quiz from God: Reboot). Its unpredictable plot twists generated enormous buzz, with legions of self-proclaimed Quiz from God fans who simply could not stop watching once they started.
Now, based on this beloved original, a new human drama has been born — starring Shotaro Mamiya and reimagined in present-day Tokyo. While faithfully preserving the captivating essence of the original Korean series, this adaptation has been boldly reimagined for a contemporary Tokyo setting.

I am Shotaro Mamiya, and I play the role of Haruto Hatsushima in Quiz from God.
About ten years ago, when I was in my early twenties, my manager first told me that they wanted me to take on this role in this drama. That was what led me to watch the original Korean series. After many twists and turns along the way, once the project officially got underway last autumn, we moved into production in no time.
The three producers on this project are people who have known me for a long time, and I am truly delighted that we have been able to bring this work to life together.
This was my first time working with the director, but we were able to build a relationship of mutual trust as we progressed through meetings, script readings, and filming.
I sincerely hope that audiences will enjoy this series. I myself am very much looking forward to seeing the finished product.

I had always thought of Mamiya-san as an actor with remarkable range — someone who can transform from a tough delinquent to a fresh-faced young man to a comedic character, revealing a different side of himself with every role. When we came together for the first time on this project, he was tasked with portraying a character whom others call a “genius.” This led us to start from the very fundamental question: what does it truly mean to be a genius? I recall having in-depth discussions with Mamiya-san on this very topic. At first, Haruto appears as an unapproachable “genius,” but as the story unfolds, he gradually reveals himself as “Haruto the human being.” I believe it is thanks to Mamiya-san that we were able to bring this portrait of Haruto to life.
I struggled considerably over how to bridge the powerful title Quiz from God with the substance of the story (laughs). What I ultimately arrived at was the idea that “God exists precisely because human beings exist.” As we depict the myriad events born from the complexities of human nature, if we can discover emotions that cannot be reduced to a simple binary of black and white — perhaps that is what Quiz from God truly is. My hope is that this story carries within it a sense of imagination toward all things, and a gentle warmth of spirit.
