Sky Commissions The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
There’s only one Lisbeth Salander — and yes, that will always be Noomi Rapace — but Sky is officially bringing the world’s most iconic hacker back to the screen with a bold new take on The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, an eight‑part Sky Original from Left Bank Pictures (The Crown, Dept Q).
This contemporary reimagining drags Stieg Larsson’s Millennium universe firmly into the present day, keeping the razor‑sharp investigative DNA of the novels while tapping into themes that feel even more urgent now than when the books first exploded onto the scene. And exploded they did — the Millennium novels have sold over 100 million copies worldwide.
Produced by Left Bank Pictures, the series begins filming in Spring 2026 in Lithuania.
Behind the scenes, the writing and executive producing duties fall to Steve Lightfoot (The Punisher, Behind Her Eyes, Spider‑Noir) and Angela LaManna (The Haunting of Bly Manor, Behind Her Eyes). Executive producers also include Andy Harries, Charlotte Moore, and John Phillips for Left Bank Pictures, with Sam Hoyle overseeing for Sky.
The series will air on Sky in the UK, Ireland, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with Sony Pictures Television handling international distribution. Pre‑sales are already underway in the US — fitting, given Sony previously brought Lisbeth to the big screen in David Fincher’s acclaimed 2011 adaptation starring Rooney Mara, followed by 2018’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
Lisbeth Salander is coming back. And Sky clearly isn’t playing it safe
